About Jessica

Hi! I’m Jessica Marie, a first-time children’s book author, but longtime maker of messes. 

I graduated from the University of Kansas with my master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I taught Kindergarten for several years in Texas.

I have 3 dogs, and I love to do yoga and spend time outdoors. I live in Kansas City, Kansas.  My favorite color is pink and my favorite food is candy.

I’m so excited to begin this journey as a children’s book author and I hope you enjoy The Mess Monster!

Our story

This book was inspired by my 8 year old daughter, whose cleats would always go missing.  I’m still convinced there is a Mess Monster living in my house!

  • Live Reading at the Ceramic Cafe

    Do you have a pre-schooler that just LOVES TO PAINT? Ceramic Cafe offers a fun story and paint time every Friday. We read a book, then the kids get to paint a ceramic item that goes along with the story and finish with a snack. What a deal and a fun way to share a creative activity with a little one. We start at 10:30 on Friday. No reservations needed unless you want to come with a large group. $16 per child + tax.

  • Live Reading at KD's Books

    Join me at Oktoberfest with KD's Books! 🤗

    Our tent will be located right outside KD's and feature local authors' and artists' work.

    Saturday 11:00 am to 1:00 pm: Meet me, Jessica Marie, local author of The Mess Monster. You can pick up a signed copy of the book, and kids can do an accompanying craft!
